"After posting two straight double-doubles to open the 2010-11 campaign, University of Houston senior forward Maurice McNeil was honored Monday as the Conference USA Player of the Week.
The New York City native helped propel the Cougars to their second 2-0 start since 1997-1998 by averaging 15.5 points and 12.5 rebounds during Houston's opening weekend of basketball.
Against Nicholls State on Friday, McNeil hit the game-winning shot with just seconds to spare in overtime to give the Cougars a 63-62 victory. He finished the night with 13 points on 4-of-4 shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds. He also added three steals and three blocks in the game.
McNeil scored 19 points and recorded 12 rebounds for the Cougars in their 88-68 win against Alcorn State on Sunday. It was the eighth double-double of his career.
This was the first time McNeil has been honored as C-USA Player of the Week. " Tweet
